Operation Big Girl Bed: night two

Yikes. I thought the night was starting out ok. Grace was fine with laying down at first, but then Klaire who was just plain crabby last night did not want to. She was flailing around and her blankets were bugging her, and was overall agitated. Finally got her calmed down, and although these shenanigans got Grace riled up I got them both calmed down as long as I'd sit on Graces bed. I sat there for an hour before I decided they both might be sleeping and snuck out. I thought we had made progress! Last night it was 2 hours, tonight only 1!
Fast forward to 12:30. We wake up to a blood curdling scream. I seriously thought she (Grace) got herself stuck or hurt somehow, but nope. Just up. SO repeat bedtime "routine" I sat and sat, and waited and waited. Have you ever tried to be so quiet that you don't even want to swallow because you fear they might hear it? Nuts. So anyway I snuck out again just got into bed and the crying started. This is where having a spouse comes in handy. Brian tells me they are fine, they are safe, they are supposed to be sleeping. DO NOT GO IN THERE. IT'S NOT HELPING. He's right. I can't sit at the edge of their beds until they fall asleep every night. Not gonna happen. Maybe I'm mean, but I can't do it! So we listen to them cry. It was probably only about 10 minutes, but it feels like 50, I don't think that ever goes away. And now they are free so I hear every little thing on the monitor and think it's them. We did put a gate up in their doorway, I told them it was to keep Ollie out of their room and that tickled them to no end:) So the rest of the night off and on they'd wake up, cry, I'd hear a thump which I can only assume is Grace getting out of bed because Klaire has not tried that yet. Apparently she got back in and went to sleep because I didn't hear anything from 4-6. What a great nights sleep huh? Like I said, Yikes. I keep telling myself it can only get better. On a positive note Rick got them to take a nap yesterday. They do not make him sit in their room of course, that fun is reserved for mommy, but he did go in and remind them they needed to go to sleep. Eventually they did, so that is an unexpected positive. I'm trying to be positive:)So that's the update, I know you were all on the edge of your seats waiting for it! I'm documenting this so they can see how much they put me through someday, when I'm old and they have to take care of me:)

Operation Big Girl Bed: night one

Yes that's right, it's in full swing. Saturday during "naptime" Grace bailed about 5 times, so it was time to bit the bullet and enter into "big girl territory" for me and them!:) They were both very excited (Ok Klaire was and Grace went along with it and humored us) during the process that started after their nap on Sunday, which by the way went perfectly and made me doubt that we really needed to do this already, but anyway-they loved the idea and said "crib for babies" and "I'm big girl!" I have to say, the beds do look cute, one was mine as a kid and we bought the other to coordinate. We don't have all the bedding yet just using their familiar blankets from their cribs for awhile and some princess sheets from Grandma. They look like little princesses in them:)
After our normal nighttime routine we ventured into uncharted territory. I was honestly anxious, but trying to hide it because Grace can sense any slight change in my mood. Klaire bounced right up in there got all tucked in with two teddys and was ready to sleep! Miss Grace on the other hand true to her clingy self immediately reverted back to upee, upee upee, her favorite and totally annoying phrase meaning she wants me to hold her. I finally got her talked into laying down, got her tucked in and thought-ok that wasn't too bad. Then I tried to leave the room. Ha. Right. I ended up having to sit on the edge of her bed while they played peek a boo over the guardrails, Grace inched down the bed until there were two big blue eyes in my face accompanied by a "hi mommy" and generally goofed around and did NOT go to sleep. I layed her back down about 50 times until she finally gave up about 10 pm. I guess in the scheme of things night one did not go that badly. They slept all night, and I sort of did, with one eye open fully expecting to see those baby blues by my bedside at some point. There were just a couple outbursts I'm guessing because they were in a "new place," but calmed down quickly and slept until 7 am. Grace did figure out she can get out of the bed by herself, so tonight might be even more interesting. Oh and Grandpa will for sure have a story about naptime today. Ah sleep, who know it would be this much of an issue. I'm realizing I've been completely spoiled for the last 2 and a half years. Overall, I put them in their cribs and they went to sleep. Easy. Operation Big Girl Bed: not so easy.

Thanksgiving 2009

We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving filled with yummy Turkey and good shopping! Ours was pretty laid back and we were blessed with no sickness, great weather and lots of playtime with family! Perfect!

This weekend the girls learned more family members names and now talk regularly about Mama Fern, Papa Keith, Neese, Com, and Ashee (you know who you are).

They of course are still fixated with the two baby nephews in the family Jackson and Wyatt!

Such fun. Jeff Nikki Gabe and Wyatt came over on Saturday and the big kids made their very own pizza...which by the way I think was even better than Pizza Hut!:)

While we had 4 days at home I thought it'd be a good idea to solidify a good Time Out procedure. Before this it was just an empty threat and no real follow through-and as you all know with a 2 year old it's all about follow through. They knew the idea and word (well, Grace says Pie-Tout!) but not really the whole process. So we now have the time out couch in the living room. I've seen Super Nanny a million times and it seemed to work for her so we pretty much follow her process. So far it's worked well. Klaire has taken residence a couple times for hitting-she has a powerful left hook!... but the main occupant is Miss Grace (mostly for whining incessantly, screaming, crying when not getting her way, and not sharing toys, ever). She is quite the pistol these days, and has her daddy's stubbornness (of course not mine!?). Anyway it takes quite a few trips back to the couch before she'll sit there for one minute (should be 2 but we are starting small). I think we are making some progress. They understand there will be consequences for their behavior and I must say yesterday I felt like we have a little more control? Just a little. Grace even put her blankie on time out:) I'm making it sound like the girls are wild heathens....not so much but we'd like to nip it in the bud before that happens! All kids need rules and structure right!?

Anyway, that's the exciting news around our house. The bed rails have not come yet and no repeat jumping so will wait on the big girl beds for a little while longer.

Yay for Pie Tout!
